The Royal Oak is one of the most important watches in the history of watchmaking. Gerald Genta's genius is fully expressed in this 33 mm ultra thin quartz version, which is often easier to wear due to its smaller size compared to the famous 39 mm ‘Jumbo’. However, it is every bit as impressive as the jumbo, with AP having done an excellent job of adapting the proportions and appearance that are the very essence of the Royal Oak.
The 56303SA, SA meaning that the watch is made of steel and yellow gold, has been launched in the 1980's. It fully showcases the characteristic angles and revolutionary style of this timeless Royal Oak, while leaving plenty of room for the dial to shine and be the centre of attention. The 33mm case is extremely thin and wears like a classic 35mm. Indeed, this particular timepiece boasts a truly exquisite grey "small font" dial, made only until the early 90's (circa 91/92). The 56303 doesn't have a date and is much rarer than its counterpart, the 56175, which sports a 3h date window:
Its grey colour shows some golden reflections depending on the light, passing through shades of blueish grey and even anthracite depending on the light. It is exceptionally beautiful and enhances the watch’s appeal. The indices are filled with tritium as well as the hands.
The case, bracelet and are all in excellent condition. The chamfers remained sharp and perfectly definied. No big dent is visible on the whole watch, only some surface scratches of wear.
The watch is entirely original, with original tritium dial and hands, original no logo crown and the original GF "button" clasp.
Cherry on the cake, it comes with its original warranty papers, which is indeed very rare for models of this type and age. Furthermore, it went at Audemars Piguet Japan for a clean up and battery change in 2026.
