about the watch
Designed to display the time in two time zones simultaneously during intercontinental flights, the Rolex GMT-Master is a legendary pilot's watch known beyond watch enthusiasts for its timeless design and historical significance.
The reference 16713 is the two-tone version of the GMT-Master II (steel and 18k yellow gold). The GMT-Master II features the quickset hour hand function, and on this specific piece, it also includes technical improvements such as a luminova dial and hands, which glow in the dark for better readability. Nonetheless, despite these more modern characteristics, the watch still features many of the vintage particularities, such as the dial layout and text, as well as the case thickness and proportions, which are more elegant and less bulky than the 6-digit references. As we like to say, neo-vintage watches are often a good mix, offering the strength and precision of a modern watch while retaining the aesthetics and wearability of the vintage ones.
This particular piece is entirely original and in excellent condition. It was sold in 1999 at Duval, in France. Notably, it has never been polished, meaning the bracelet and case have kept their original proportions and shapes. The yellow gold has gained a light oxidation over time—another proof that the watch was seldom worn. The black insert is a timeless GMT feature that perfectly complements the black dial, giving the timepiece excellent readability and a sleeker look than its blue sister. Proof of how well the watch was taken care of is the green sticker, which is still super crisp on the case back. The watch is delivered with its original set, conferring great collector's value on this splendid GMT.
The case and bracelet are in excellent condition, having been kept unpolished.
The bracelet is the original Oyster, ref. 78793, endlinks 401B. It has no stretch.
The watch is sold with its original set, including the box and original warranty papers.
The movement is the original caliber 3185, which runs perfectly well.
