about the watch

In the rich and long history of Rolex, the Oyster Perpetual Date 34 is sometimes forgotten alongside its bigger sister the Datejust. Born in the 1960s, the references 150x, have seen many variations of bezel, bracelets, and dials combinations. Despite their smaller case size of 34mm, they share the same COSC movements as the Datejust.

This specific piece features the rare and captivating so called "brick", "mosaic" or "shantung" blue dial. This sought after iteration can be compared to the linen dials of the same period because of the way they are crafted. The horizontal lines and rectangles create metallic reflections and turn the dial into a moving landscape, giving it a vibrant and dynamic appearance on the wrist. The tritium on the hands and hour markers has developed a charming yellow patina, adding a vintage touch to the watch. These beautiful features are visible through the plexiglas crystal. The steel bezel is original and very attractive, giving the watch a slightly sportier look than if it were fitted with the famous fluted white gold bezel seen on Datejust's. The oyster folded bracelet is in perfect condition and is made of steel, as are the case and bezel.

Moreover, the watch is in very good overall condition, with plenty of material left on the case and sharp angles. Most of the value still lies in the dial, which is in fabulous condition, in contrast to most of these. This makes it both the perfect first Rolex and also a true showpiece for any serious collector.

The watch is fully original, and is in a great overall condition.

The bracelet is the original one and shows no stretch.

The watch is sold without box or papers. We provide a Veritas travel pouch.

The movement is the original caliber 1570, which runs well and has been checked by our watchmakers.
