about the watch

The Omega Speedmaster needs no introduction, being widely regarded as one of the most famous and beloved models in the world. Among the countless Speedmaster references, the 145.022-69 is one of the most sought-after. It comes in several sub-versions, the most famous of which are the ‘pre-moon’ and ‘straight writing’ models.

The ‘straight writing’ caseback was the first to feature an engraving celebrating the success of the moon landing. It differs from all its descendants in the absence of the seahorse medallion, but above all because of its typography and layout. Unlike the other versions, the words ‘worn on the moon’ are written in a straight line rather than curved around the case back, hence its nickname ‘straight writing’. On top of that, this version has the "Apollo XI - 1969" engraving which was only made for the japanese market. It is hard to know how much of these watches were produced, but one thing is sure, it is a very rare bird !

Apart from the crown (changed on 90% of these examples during service), this piece is completely original and period correct. From the dial to the hands, from the bracelet to the buckle. The hour markers and hands of the watch are filled with tritium, and the hour markers developed a beautiful yellow patina contrasting with the matte black of the dial. The dial, a crucial part of the Speedmaster, is immaculate. The DNN bezel is original and in good condition, some scratches are visible on the inlay as shown on the pictures. The case is also well preserved. The bracelet, a flat link reference 1039 with end links 516 (buckle 4-70) is in perfect condition and has no stretch, which is worth noting as many of these bracelets are often very stretched.

The case and bracelet are in excellent condition, having kept sharp angles.

The bracelet is the original flat link, reference 1039, end links 516, stamp 71. It has no stretch.

The watch is sold without box nor papers. We provide a Veritas travelling pouch.

The movement is the original caliber 861, which has been serviced in our Omega certified workshops.
