about the watch
In Rolex's long and rich history, few models can lay claim to such renown as the Datejust. Born in 1945, the model has seen many variations and combinations of cases, bracelets and dials. Reference 16234 is the first Datejust to have had sapphire instead of plexiglass, offering a little more resistance and a slightly more modern look than previous references. As is often the case with these neo-vintage Rolexes, the watch is a good mix, offering the strength and precision of a modern watch while retaining the aesthetics and wearability of the vintages. This particular piece, with its blue dial, fluted white gold bezel and jubilee bracelet, remains probably the most sought-after version of the Datejust, in every different reference, thanks in no small part to its versatility and recognisability. The fascinating dial varies from a vibrant blue to a deep ocean blue, and even sometimes looking purple, depending on the light. This gives it a lively, dynamic appearance on the wrist. The indexes and hands are in tritium, the latter having gained a beautiful light beige patina that makes the piece all the more attractive. The overall condition of the watch is fantastic, considering it has never been polished. Indeed, the case and bracelet have scratches as they have been worn, but they were never polished. This gives this watch an amazing look and a great collection value. It is the perfect starting point for a collection and a must-have for any serious watch enthusiast.
As the watch is unpolished, the case and bracelet have a lot of material and sharp edges.
The buckle and bracelet are in excellent condition too. The bracelet is the original one, reference 62510H, and has no stretch.
The watch is sold alone, without box or papers. We provide a Veritas travel pouch.
The movement is the original caliber 3135, which runs well.
