about the watch
The Tank, a renowned series of timepieces by Cartier, traces its roots to Louis Cartier's design vision in 1917, inspired by the innovative Renault tanks observed during their deployment on the Western Front. Its inception as the Tank Louis Cartier occurred in 1922, closely tied to the company's founder, Louis-François Cartier. Over the years, this iconic watch has evolved into a symbol of timeless design and functionality, with its perfectly balanced rectangular case and softly rounded angles. The inaugural prototype was presented to General John J. Pershing of the American Expeditionary Force, and the Tank's enduring aesthetic has transcended generations, maintaining a contemporary allure since its inception.
This specific timepiece, a Tank Louis Medium reference 78086, dates from around the mid-1990s and has been very well preserved. Its 18-carat yellow gold case perfectly complements the original white dial, which bears the inscription "Swiss" at 6 o'clock. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring the original Cartier buckle in 18-carat yellow gold. This watch is a classic and a piece that certainly leaves no one indifferent, so perfect is its execution.
The watch is in amazing condition. The case and bezel did not get polished heavily, keeping their initial shape. The dial is in immaculate condition.
The leather bracelet is in great condition, having not been worn much. It still sports the original Cartier buckle in 18k yellow gold.
The watch is sold alone, without box nor papers. We provide a Veritas travelling pouch.
The movement is the manual caliber 78-1, which runs perfectly well.
