about the watch

The Cartier Gondole "Jumbo" was created in response to the 1970s trend of bold, oversized watch designs, presenting a significant contrast to the traditional Cartier Tank. Available in 18k yellow and white gold, the "jumbo" model could be bought in a vertical or horizontal orientation, the latter reminiscent of a 1970s classic TV-shaped case.
Despite its larger case, Cartier did not fail to maintain its core design features in the making of the Gondole. The classic white dial is adorned with black Roman numerals and blued steel hands, ensuring proportional aesthetics. Not many brands successfully enlarge an adored watch design without denaturing it. Staying true to Cartier's iconic elements, the watch's crown is adorned with the brand's signature sapphire cabochon.
This specific piece is an even rarer variant of the already rare Cartier model. Indeed, as one might have realized, the dial is not stamped "Paris" at 6 o'clock but "Swiss." This is not a service dial; instead, it was specifically made for the US market, which had strict importing rules for luxury watches. Furthermore, a few inscriptions on the caseback, such as "Swiss 18k" close to the cabochon, are all part of Cartier's efforts to comply with importing regulations in the US. These specific traits enhance the watch's collectible value, propelling it to the rank of a "grail watch" for many Cartier collectors.
The watch is in excellent condition, featuring a double-stepped bezel that enhances its visual impact surrounding the flawless dial. The bluish hands are complemented by a beautiful marine blue bracelet, harmonizing with the watch's 18k yellow gold case.

The watch is in amazing condition. The case and bezel did not get polished heavily, keeping their initial shape. The dial is in immaculate condition.

The leather bracelet is in great condition, having not been worn much. It still sports the original Cartier buckle in 18k yellow gold.

The watch is sold alone, without box nor papers. We provide a Veritas travelling pouch.

The movement is the manual caliber 97B, which runs perfectly well.
