Royal Oak, ref. 14790ST, circa 1990s
The one and only Royal Oak, Genta's design masterpiece. Presented here in its all-steel version, this is the classic Royal Oak, one of the most beautiful and historically significant watches ever produced. This specific model dates from the 1990s and has an absolutely stunning ‘tropical’ dial, meaning that the original blue (!) dial has developed a patina over time, turning golden brown. A rare but highly sought-after patina that is extremely aesthetic.

about the watch
The Royal Oak is one of the most important watches in the history of watchmaking. Gerald Genta's genius is fully expressed in this 36 mm ‘mini-jumbo’ version, which is often easier to wear due to its smaller size compared to the famous 39 mm ‘Jumbo’. However, the mini-jumbo is every bit as impressive as the jumbo, with AP having done an excellent job of adapting the proportions and appearance that are the very essence of the Royal Oak.
The ST version, which means that the watch is made entirely of steel, is probably one of the most legendary watches ever produced. It fully showcases the characteristic angles and revolutionary style of this timeless model, while leaving plenty of room for the dial to shine and be the centre of attention. Indeed, what sets this watch apart from other Royal Oaks or other 14790s is that it features one of the most perfect tropical dials one could wish for. A ‘tropical dial’ refers to a dial that has acquired a patina that has transformed its original blue (!) colour into a golden brown. It is extremely attractive, but also highly sought after by collectors, as only a few tropical dials develop such a uniform patina. The case, bracelet and mk2 dial are in excellent condition.
The case has a lot of material, which is a good sign that the watch has probably been lightly refreshed, but that it was made with care.
The watch is sold alone, without box nor papers. We provide a Veritas travelling pouch.
The movement is the original 2125, which runs well.
