About the watch
The triple calendar moonphase is a complication practically synonymous with Blancpain. Introduced in the 1980s as one of the brand's celebrated "Six Masterpieces," it was conceived as part of Jean-Claude Biver's plan to revive the marque. Working from a farmhouse in Le Brassus, Biver and Jacques Piguet set out to define what would become the aesthetic and philosophical backbone of the Villeret collection: high complications housed in neo-classic designed cases.
The inaugural Blancpain Complete Calendar Moonphase of 1983 set in motion the codes the collection has remained faithful to ever since: a clear style, a slim silhouette, a double-stepped bezel, and a highly legible dial. The ref. 6595 is a more modern expression of that original vision, housed in an 18k yellow gold case and displaying day, date and month through a combination of twin apertures and a central pointer hand, with a moonphase at 6 o'clock framed by a date chapter ring. The white dial carries applied Roman numeral hour markers, gold hands, and a blued crescent-tipped date pointer. This specific piece is in great condition, with the dial being impeccable and the case having lived without being too worn. The bracelet is like-new.
