The Rolex Day-Date, also known as the "Rolex President", is a legendary and prestigious model in Rolex's rich history. Unlike the so-called "sports" models, the Rolex Day-Date is a pure luxury product. Only produced in precious metals, it is nevertheless perfectly suited to everyday use, thanks in particular to its day and date functions. The 18038 is the first 5-digit reference, it saw the introduction of quick date setting and sapphire glass. This updated movement and the saphire glass make it the perfect blend of vintage look and modern practicality. With its heavy, warm presence on the wrist, this watch is more than just a gold watch. It represents a whole range of manufacturing expertise, and in particular the excellent use of precious materials that has, among other things, made the reputation of Rolex.
This specific model, reference 18038, was sold in 1988. One can see that marks of oxidation are visible on the case, showing how little this watch was worn. The gold dial is in fantastic condition, with all the tritium dots clearly visible and sporting a lovely patina. The hands are also tritium and match the dial. The "President" bracelet with invisible clasp is also original. The stretch is virtually non-existent. The watch is entirely original, which is rare enough to be worth mentioning—especially when talking about a piece that is over 40 years old!
The case has a lot of material and sharp edges. The bracelet appears unpolished and it is the original President bracelet, reference 8385.
Cherry on the top, watch is sold with it's original box and papers from 1988.
